Blowing Away the Resistance

There's a technical side to everything.

And with gold, AMEX's Gold Bugs Index is a good reflection of it. What's this? Well, BUGS is an acronym for "Basket
of Unhedged Gold Stocks." Specifically, these are mining stocks that look no longer than a year-and-a-half into the future. So it's a pretty good forecaster of the precious metal (along with another index called the XAU).

The reason I bring this up is that the Gold Bugs Index just got blown away.Yesterday, it shot almost 11 points higher! That means it blasted through the "nine-month down trendline" in the process. Why is this signficant? Usually smashing through technical resistance lines like that signals dramatic developments ahead for whatever commodity did the smashing.

In other words...gold is looking pretty darn strong for the future.

You can read more about this in Peter Brimelow's article in Marketwatch. more...
